amy: Strahov Monastery Part II

A different faction off Strahov Monastery would be Dr. Kabat’s famous organist playing for us in the church at the monastery. Once again, the cold and uncomfortable pews seemed to enhance the experience for me. Even listening to the organist play on the tiny organ gave me a sense of wonder at music and music played in the quietness of a place dedicated to the worship of God. Of course, this tiny organ was only a droplet before the torrent of water that would be flowing down from the “Mozart organ.” As he began to play, I felt my entire soul rising up with the music. It was as though my entire body was reverberating with the symphony. Especially since I was in a place consecrated to God, I felt as though I was speaking to God. All my senses were bombarded by the combination of music, incense and artwork which were there for the sake of worshipping God. One could look around and see depictions of Scripture. Flowers of the most beautiful creation were surrounding the group. The historical nature of the church made one think of what sort of services and events had happened in the presence of the altars and organ that was now playing. The idea that Mozart composed some of the best music the world has ever heard on this very same instrument astounded me and left me in awe. These kinds of displays often leave me wanting to find a quiet place and pray to God in wonderment of this life we lead.
